The eyeballs
of most birds are quite flat with large
retinas. Birds of prey are different
in that their eyes are almost tubular and
so able to take in less territory than those
of other species, however they are able
to see greater distances and target prey
more accurately. This photograph of a King
Vulture shows the transparent third eyelid
present in all birds; its purpose is to
moisten and clean the cornea.
