At times work from Leonardo's studio is falsely attributed to him but paintings like this sixteenth century oil are soon eliminated as being by his hand. Nothing about this work suggests it is by the master and even the untrained eye would probably pick this. The face does not conform to the 'typical' Leonardo type and he would never execute such a misshapen body. In this work the head is shown in profile while the body is angled more towards the viewer. Because the neck and shoulders don't reflect the turn the entire body looks out of proportion and becomes distorted. This painting is now thought to be from the Leonardo studio, although the artist remains unidentified.
